Driving around Vernon, Manchester, or Hartford, Connecticut, gets a lot more fun in a new sedan model. Both the 2021 Hyundai Sonata and the Kia K5 are two sedans that offer drivers a lot of similar features.
Our team at Key Hyundai of Manchester wrote this Hyundai Sonata vs. Kia K5 comparison to see which of the two performs better in certain categories. Check it out to learn more, and contact us with any questions you might have or to schedule a test drive!
Hyundai Sonata vs. Kia K5: Safety
Safety features are very similar on these two sedans. Both of them come with the following standard features:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Lane Following Assist
- High Beam Assist
Both also feature available safety upgrades, like Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
However, the Hyundai Sonata is the only one of the two models to offer Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go as a standard feature. On the Kia K5, it’s not available on the base trim or even the one above it. Instead, you’ll have to upgrade to a much higher trim level, where it is available.
Furthermore, the Sonata is the only model that has an available Blind-Spot View Monitor. This upgraded blind-spot-assistive feature will give you a live video feed on your digital instrument cluster, which shows you your blind spots for easier merging. Unfortunately, no such upgrade is found on the Kia K5.
Hyundai Sonata vs. Kia K5: Technology
Both models come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen and offer the option to upgrade to a 10.25-inch one, if you prefer a larger screen. These screens can then be used to access standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
Both models also come standard with a 6-speaker audio system. You can upgrade to an available 12-speaker Bose® premium audio system.
Where the two really differ is in terms of parking technology. The Hyundai Sonata provides greater innovation through its available Remote Smart Parking Assist. Using a button found on your Smart Key, you can instruct your vehicle to park or pull out of a certain space in a lot. The Kia K5, on the other hand, doesn’t feature this sort of parking technology.
Hyundai Sonata vs. Kia K5: Exterior
Many drivers want to find a vehicle that features exterior color options they would enjoy sporting. The Sonata offers seven different color choices on its base trim while the K5 only offers four. Seven color options don’t become available until you select a higher trim on the Kia model.
Many of the colors are similar in the two models, including black, white, red, and silver. The Sonata, however, goes on to include a navy-blue option and two choices in gray on its base level. Unfortunately, you’ll have to opt for a higher trim of the Kia K5 to find its beige, gray, and sapphire blue choices.
Additionally, the Hyundai Sonata also offers a Glowing Yellow option on its SEL Plus and N-Line trim levels. This brings your total number of paint options up to eight with these trim levels, which allows for further creativity and customization.
